The Elf Diaries: 3

Finally it's over. I'm proud to say we only forgot to move Peaches one night the whole time she was on our mantel. It happened while M was sick and I told her Peaches knew M wasn't feeling well so she decided to go easy on her for one night. The next morning, M woke up to find a note in her coloring book from Peaches:

Then this happened:

 So we did this:

Which M thought was hilarious. She said, "What is Peaches doing? She is giving a dinosaur a check up! You wanna take a picture of that? You better take a picture. That's a dinosaur getting a check up!"

After the kids started to feel better, we took things up a notch and tried to make the most of the last few days with Peaches. We missed a few pictures but one morning Peaches was swinging from the ceiling fan, M woke up to find Peaches sitting on the couch, eating cookies and watching M's favorite movie, Oz the Great and Powerful. We did manage to snap a few pictures. Peaches hanging from our tree topper and my personal favorite, making sure the undies were hung by the chimney with care.

It was fun. M loved it. I'm glad we don't have to get out of bed every night to go move the Elf because we forgot almost every single night. One morning I woke up and noticed our goldfish was not moving and did not appear to be breathing. She was floating on the surface of the water and I was convinced she was dead. My first thought was to move the elf to the fish bowl to make it look like Peaches killed the fish. For picture taking purposes only. I would never show it to M. Luckily, I managed to resurrect the fish with a little food but I missed out on a funny picture. The Elf is pretty creepy.

The Elf Diaries: 2

10 days until Christmas ya'll. That's 10 more nights or forgetting to move the elf and rushing back downstairs in the dark, middle of the night, tripping over toys and shoes and scrambling to come up with a creative idea that will put a smile on my girl's face.

I'll start with her favorite so far. Peaches decided to take a marshmallow bubble bath and M, as you can see, thought it was a pretty great idea. I caught her sampling a few marshmallows.

A few more that didn't quite get the same reaction as the marshmallow bubble bath but were still a hit:

We failed to get a picture of one of my favorite elf moments. Peaches decided to get into a bag of M&Ms while we were all sleeping and M discovered her head first in the half eaten bag the next morning. Someone ate Peaches leftovers and threw away the evidence before I could get a picture. It wasn't me. It was me.

My favorite elf moment so far was when Peaches got into the milk. M thought it was super silly at first:

Until she saw that Peaches turned the milk blue with her "magic". M was PISSED. I mean, she was so offended. Yanked Peaches up and marched her over to the time out stair. I'm starting to wonder if Peaches' idea of magic is murdering a smurf and dissolving him in our milk as if it were a bathtub full of acid. This is not Breaking Bad. M refused to drink the milk and she was not happy that I wanted to save it to show her Dad. She was ready to get rid of that tainted milk.

10 more days. Of course they have this now though:

I think it's dumb and they're just going to milk this elf fad for all it's worth and take all our money. I think it's dumb now but knowing me, I'll be buying it in the summer. Just in time for a very important 4th birthday. And I'm probably going to be needing this too while we're at it.

Stay tuned. 10 more days.

The Elf Diaries: 1

Meet Peaches. M does not approve of her bad behavior.

Peaches originally came to our house last Christmas but I don't think M's 3 year old memory remembers. M was playing in her playroom a few days ago and heard the doorbell ring . She loves when the doorbell rings because that usually means someone is here to visit her or a package has arrived (Mommy has an online shopping problem. Don't judge.). In this case it was the latter. This time the package was sent by Santa. According to the Elf on the Shelf movie or tv special that came on last week, Santa sends the Elf each year. News to us. Last year we just set her out.

Based on M's reaction to the special Elf delivery, I could tell she didn't remember having Peaches at our house last year. A good thing for mom and dad considering we were pretty awful at making sure the Elf moved every night.

After getting off to a late start this year due to traveling, me being sick and forgetting to move the damn thing, we finally managed to help Peaches get into a bit of mischief last night. As you can see from the picture, Peaches must have had a bit of halitosis because she decided to use M's toothbrush to brush her teeth. When I came out of my bedroom this morning to wake M for school, she was already up and in the bathroom. She had gotten up to go potty and discovered the Elf's shenanigans. I found M frantically wiping at the toothpaste that had been squirted onto the bathroom sink with a kleenex .

Me: "M?! What happened?" I asked.

M: "Peaches just sat on my toothpaste and made a big, big mess" she said.

Me: "Peaches did that? Oh my goodness. Are you sure? Why did she do that?"

M: "I don't know Mommy, I just found her like that. Just sitting on my toothpaste."

Me: "Are you sure it was Peaches and not M?"

M: "My name is M and it wasn't me. I only do good things. It was Peaches."

I sent Peaches to time out.

I know some people are against the whole Elf on the Shelf thing because you're tricking your kids into being good for a short period of time by making them believe the Elf is watching their behavior and reporting back to Santa whether they are being bad or good. Clearly those people are not parents. Or they're just a scrooge.

I'm all for anything that encourages M to have good behavior and that holds her accountable for any bad behavior. I also think it helps when she can be the mommy or teacher in certain situations and show someone, or in this case, something else how to behave and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. What I like most about it though is the magic. They're only little for a short period of time and I want her to experience all the magic and joy of believing in something. Stay tuned for more elf on the shelf stories from Sweet Fancy McGees.

J

6 months ago this happened:

I can't believe how quickly 6 months can pass. On the other hand, I know that 6 months is such a small amount of time. A tiny blip in this boy's life. It's just that babies change so much in the first year and soon they're "big kids" picking out their own outfits and asking questions about the world.

J's personality has really started to show recently. He's kind of a shy guy, he still likes to hide from the world but once he gets to know you, he is not afraid to be LOUD. He loves to laugh and hearing others laugh. Sometimes he will get fussy and I will do something silly to try to make him laugh, as soon as I stop, he gets fussy again just so I'll be silly again. Manipulator. No one makes him laugh more than his big sister though. He can still be a grumpy old man too. We spent last week in Arkansas with my family. We don't get to visit as much as I would like and M doesn't get nearly enough time to be rowdy with her cousins so we really let them go cray-cray. At one point all the kids were jumping on the bed, I was standing in the doorway with Jack who watched the kids jumping for a brief moment then furrowed his brow and began to yell at them as if to say "You kids better get off my lawn."

J seems to be learning cool new tricks all the time. He's a pro at rolling over now and loves to roll from his back to his tummy for play time. He also prefers to sleep on his tummy. Each night we put him on his back but soon he's flipping onto his tummy. The first night he did it, we freaked out and went back in to roll him onto his back (back is best) several times before I googled what we should do. When in doubt, google. Even if it's 2am. After removing his crib bumpers, now we just let him stay on his tummy and he's much happier there. He loves to stand up, he can pull himself up into a standing position if you let him hold onto your fingers. He's a strong little guy.

J's first tooth came through last week, a day before Thanksgiving. Perfect timing, almost like he was saying "Ok guys, bring on the food, I'm ready." Big boy. He's on stage 2 baby food and so far he's been really great about eating anything we give him. At first he refused to eat packaged baby food and insisted on only homemade stuff but he's getting over that.

Our lives have changed so much since he arrived 6 months ago. We're a lot busier and a little more tired, the husband and I have even less time to spend together (what's a date night?), we have to make sure we make time for M and Mommy dates so my favorite girl gets her one on one time with her mom. It feels like J has always been here though, he just fit right in and we're so lucky to have him.

Ingenuity Trio 3-in-1 High Chair - Whimsical Wonders REVIEW!

My big boy just had his 4 month checkup, he grew 3" and 5lbs in 2 months. Coming in at 27" tall and 18.11lbs, he tops the charts at the 98th percentile across the board. First of all, I can't believe J is 4 months old but he doesn't even look like a tiny baby anymore. He's the size of a 6-8 month old! Obviously we have started feeding him baby food in order to keep up with this hungry boys appetite. Although, for a big guy his appetite isn't as large as I would expect. So far he will only agree to eat baby oatmeal cereal mixed with formula. His taste in food mimics his old man personality. Nothing with too much flavor, let's keep it bland, nothing wrong with my oatmeal Mom! Stop trying to force me to eat mashed up bananas.

With M we used a space saver high chair which just attaches to one of your kitchen chairs as opposed to having legs of it's own. It was perfect for us because our kitchen is rather small which is a pain in the booty for someone who spends probably 60% of their time in there. It did become a bit inconvenient when we would have people over for dinner because M's seat took up one of our kitchen chairs so we would always have to grab chairs from other parts of the house. When we had J I considered getting a normal high chair to go along with our space saver and we could just switch them out when we had dinner guests. Someone must be listening to my crazy internal conversations with myself because I was recently asked to review the Ingenuity Trio 3-in-1 High Chair from the Whimsical Wonders Collection.

Guys, this highchair is an indecisive momma's best friend. If you are like me and can't decided which high chair would work better for you, a normal or a space saver, this is your answer. It is both! With a 3rd option to sweeten the deal, it turns into a restaurant style seat too. You know, the ones they push up to the table when you're out to eat? Yeah, so that's 3 high chairs in 1. So, instead of buying 2 like I was about to do, you just buy 1 and you get 3. Not to mention, you can use the space saver and the restaurant seat at the same time for 2 different kids. I know, it just keeps getting better.

I let the husband put it together and he said it was pretty easy to assemble. The pattern is adorable but not too cutesy like a cartoon character print. It's a subtle print that can work for either a boy or a girl.

Ah! Look at that hunk. Best model ever! The back is so easy to adjust, I can take J from a reclining position for his bottle to a sitting position for his oatmeal in no time using the handle on the back:

The one thing I don't like is that the tray is very difficult to remove. You can not do it with one hand. You have to push on the little buttons underneath and sort of jiggle it to get it to come off.

The rest of the chair is very easy to disassemble in order to use the space saver seat and restaurant style high chair.

It is also very easy to clean which is important when you have messy little ones in the house. The cover comes off and can be thrown in the washer. The tray can go into the dishwasher and everything else is very easy to wipe down with a sponge. All in all, I think this is a pretty great high chair. It can be used for 2 kids at once and it turns into 3 different types of chairs. I definitely recommend it. To buy your's click HERE. Baby J not included.

She's Crazy

A little over a year ago my mom called to tell me she had secretly married her 4th husband a month prior to that phone call. She married husband #4 the exact same day that her divorce from husband #3 was finalized. This of course, was after a very long and difficult summer which included my mother repeatedly being admitted to a nearby mental health facility. She called me almost daily and unexpectedly showed up at my door on more than one occasion to discuss her failing 3rd marriage and constant new accusations against husband #3 who, up until then, had been nothing short of a perfect husband to her (her words), erratic behavior on her part and countless lies. I had just found out I was pregnant with J and after experiencing a devastating miscarriage earlier in the year, I knew I needed to simplify my life and let go of the people and things that were only bringing me heartache.

My relationship with my mother is a long and windy road with many bumps. There's an old scenic road in Arkansas called Pig Trail. Rumor has it that the name Pig Trail came after the road was created while chasing a pig through the woods. If I had to put a name on my relationship with my mom I would name it Pig Trail. It's like chasing a psychotic pig through a forest of feelings. Angry, ecstatic, sad, happy, excited, enraged, loving. Each emotion shifting from moment to moment. It's not easy for me to talk about her because it is such a strange and somewhat unique situation. It's hard for other people to understand that some mothers lack that nurturing, loving quality that makes a mother a mom. Which confuses me because there are always stories in the news about abusive, negligent parents. Is it only believable once the mother has done something so tragic that it makes headlines? My mom has given me 2 excuses for being a lousy parent. 1.) She was so young when she had me, only 17, and 2.) I never let her be my mom. It is true, I do hold her accountable for her mistakes but those were never very good excuses for years of neglect and emotional abuse in my book. There is a lot I could say about my mom, but like I said, it's not easy for me. Honestly, it's too much for one blog post anyway. I felt like this was a long time coming though and I've decided to write about it now because after that phone call last October, I decided enough was enough and I needed to close the door on that part of my life and a relationship that would never be healthy. That meant removing my M and J's biological grandmother from their lives.

I call my mom a stunt queen because she is always pulling stunts. My whole life was like a roller coaster with her. But not like a fun, exciting new roller coaster. More like an old rickety roller coaster that is a little fun but mostly terrifying because you're convinced any minute a board will crack and the whole roller coaster will come crashing down with you on it.The cycle would always go like this: She would come into my life, she would be present and as loving as she could be, although it never felt genuine. She would stick around for a while, then she would pull one of her stunts. I would get upset, we would fight, she would play the victim and tell everyone how awful I was being to her. I would rarely share my side of the story because 1.) No one ever believed me, how could a mother be so awful? It's easier for people to believe a child is bratty and ungrateful and 2.) I'm pretty private, I always thought it was between the 2 of us and I didn't want to drag anyone else into that mess because it's awful. I'm not saying she was Precious by Sapphire's mother or anything, not quite that terrible. She was bad in her own special way. I always knew something was not right but when you're young there is so much you don't understand, especially when it comes to something as complex as mental illness. When anyone would ask about my mom, I would just say "We don't get along. She's crazy." I didn't know how else to describe her and it also left our relationship open to interpretation. I didn't have to go into detail and usually people would assume our relationship was a normal mother/teenage daughter relationship with normal ups and downs. Keyword being normal, when we were anything but normal. My relationship with my mother and my unusual home life (her erratic behavior and my emancipation from her when I was a teenager) made it difficult to get close to people and make friends. I lost a lot of friends when I became emancipated, I was living with her 2nd husband. Parents didn't want their daughters sleeping over at my house when I didn't have a mom and lived with my mom's 2nd ex-husband who was not my father.

My mom met and moved in with husband #3 within 1 year of her divorce from husband #2. She had done the same when she divorced my dad and married husband #2, it all happened within 1 year. Are you starting to see a pattern? She can't be alone. Each marriage tends to end the same way, always with accusations of abuse after she has an affair. Her first 2 marriages lasted approximately 7 years each so everyone was a little surprised when her marriage to husband #3 reached the 10 year mark. We thought she had finally settled that restlessness inside her. Finally found someone who knew how to ground her. On the outside, everything looked completely fine between the 2 of them. You can imagine my shock when she unexpectedly showed up (uninvited) at my house crying one day. She started telling me that things weren't going well between them, she accused husband #3 of abuse. I immediately thought to myself "Here we go, she's found someone else." They both insisted that they had drifted apart and no 3rd party was involved. But I know my mother. My stunt alarm went off when she started telling me about how husband #3 was upset with her because she was having lunch with an "elderly gentleman" who she knew from church. During a disastrous trip to Disney World last May I started piecing together little bits of information until I knew without a doubt that she was in fact having an affair with "the elderly man from church", who was really only a few years older than her. Soon after, my mom and husband #3 began divorce proceedings. The divorce was difficult on my mom. I truly believe she did not want to go through with it, deep down. She was diagnosed as having bi-polar disorder, she began taking medication but it didn't seem to work because she was in and out of mental health facilities all summer. Her mother, my grandmother, has written a few books, nothing you've heard of but they are on Amazon. Grandma decided to write a book about my mother's now 3rd ex-husband, describing him as a man who saves lives in the community as an EMT but sexually and physically abuses his wife behind closed doors. I understand supporting your children but not ruining a man's life and reputation based on the accusations of someone who is mentally ill. I encouraged my mother to take some time and get to know herself. She met my dad when she was 15 and had pretty much been in a relationship with someone since that time. She never took time to find out who she was without being someone's significant other. Last October, she called to tell me that my sister was angry with her because she had gotten married a month ago and kept it a secret. I had recently found out that I was pregnant and after experiencing a miscarriage earlier in the year, I was trying to stay positive and stress-free for the health of both the baby and myself. I calmly told her to give my sister some time to cool off. I told my mom that it wasn't fair for her to keep a secret like that after everything else she had put us through. I also told her she was an adult and so was I (thank goodness) and I didn't really care who she married anymore but that I didn't appreciate being lied to and my sister had a right to be upset for the same reason. I told her I was in the process of putting my daughter to bed and really didn't have time to deal with yet another one of her self induced crises. When I hung up the phone, I wasn't angry. I was tired. That was the last time I talked to her. She called a few times around Christmas last year. She called when she found out through the grapevine that I was pregnant. I blocked her calls so that they went straight to voicemail but listening to the voice mails was too much. She's a great victim and an even better manipulator. She's been playing the game for a long time. It's not my first time at her rodeo. The best way to describe it is that my mother has been putting on a stunt show or magic show my entire life, probably longer.I've been sitting front row at this stunt show my entire life. Other people are in the audience but they are all sitting in the nose bleed section. I'm the only one sitting close enough to see the strings and trap doors she's using. Other people can come and go as they please but I'm not allowed to leave, every time I try someone shoves me back in my seat. I'm forced to sit there and watch this show play out over and over. I've seen it so many times that I have the stunts memorized. Eventually I changed my number. It's been 14 months since I talked to my mom and even longer since I saw her. She lives 30 minutes away from me. Even if I hadn't forced this break in our relationship, she probably would have only seen my children once or twice over the course of the last year anyway. That's just how she is. She comes and goes.

This isn't meant to bash her. I don't like that this is the way things are. I've tried everything to help her and sometimes to change her but it's not my responsibility to change her. Now I have a family of my own and I want to do what is best for them. Having her around is not what is best for my kids. I can't stand the thought of them sitting by the front door waiting for her to show up because she promised to come visit or take them on some wild adventure she told them about, me knowing she's not coming and we most likely won't hear from her for weeks. No excuses given, just a total no-show and no remorse on her part. She'll hide out until I forgive and forget. She's done the same thing to me so many times and I know how heartbreaking it can be. I can already see the card and cupcakes sitting by the front door every year when I bring them home from school on their birthday, a note inside the card explaining that she stopped by at noon on a Thursday to spend their birthday with them but they weren't home knowing it is because they're at school. As if it's their fault she wasn't able to see them. It is my job to protect them from someone I know is only capable of bringing drama and heartbreak into their lives. You wouldn't let an suspected child molester or serial killer babysit your kids would you? Why would I allow someone that I know, without a doubt will emotionally damage my children into their lives? I know I can't protect them from everything forever but I feel responsible for this, for her, my mother. I know my husband has had to watch her play emotional mind games with me for 13 years and he thinks I've been happier the last year than I have ever been. That has to count for something. A few days ago M was asking us to explain who our parents are. Explaining her dad's parents was easy, she knows Nana and Pop well. She spent some time with Grandpa Bill (my dad) recently so that was easy too. I couldn't explain my mother so I just didn't bring it up. I stopped with "and Mommy's dad is Grandpa Bill." I don't know what to say. She didn't ask about my mom and despite spending a week with her at Disney World last summer, she doesn't remember her.

Every person has their good qualities, even my mom. I do have 2 or 3 good memories of her from my childhood. She could do a spot on Donald Duck impression which is hilarious and extremely cool when you're under 10 years old. I remember being probably 3 years old and sitting in the front seat of her car (it was the 80's and people cared very little for the safety of their children apparently, shame on all of you!) as we drove down a very steep hill on our way to City Park. She always made me pretend we were on a roller coaster and we would put our hands up and scream as our tummies did flip flops. I remember spider swinging on the swing with her at the park, my head on her chest and feeling like this is what it feels like to have a mom. It never lasted long though. When I was 5 she went out of town for a while and when she came back she was waiting for me at the front door of my grandma's house when I got off the school bus. She hugged me and I remember being really confused because she never hugged me. My mom is an excellent play mate for little kids but she's not a great mother. One of the last times she came to my house to visit M, I remember watching them from the kitchen window, they were in the backyard playing. My mom chasing after M with a crown on her head and pajamas on. I wondered what the neighbors must think about this crazy lady chasing my toddler through the yard. But M was having a blast. I'm grateful to her for taking M to Disney World. It was by far the nicest thing she has ever done for me. Although, it was stressful. It was right in the middle of her most recent crisis, just before she checked into a mental health facility for the first time. In hind sight I can see how unwell she was at the time. We took M to see the Barney Live Show and afterward we were able to play in Barney's Backyard for about 15 minutes before the next show started and a new group came in. It wasn't a lot of time and there was a lot to do. When they blew the whistle letting us know it was time to go, my mom complained about how they hadn't even had a chance to play in the sand yet. Everyone else left, I was holding M and waiting on my mom. The Barney's Backyard employee was waiting on us and we both watched my 40-something year old mother play in the sand. Alone.

I know they don't need her. We have so many wonderful people in our lives. They have their Nana and Pop. Their Grandpa Bill in Arkansas. My grandma, "Granny Ginger" who M adores as much as I do already and I know J will too. They have my aunt Dawn who has always been so much more than just an aunt to me. On my wedding day, Dawn was the only person who stayed with me while I entered the church, quietly taking her seat at the back as I began to walk down the aisle. She loves my kids like they are her grandchildren and Aunt Dawn is one of M's favorite people. Dawn's son, Rance has always been my brother, even though we're really cousins. Truth is, Rance and I have always been closer than my sister and I are. My kids have so my wonderful people in their lives, they're not missing anything. I just don't want them to think I made the decision to cut my mom out of our lives for them.

This is definitely one of the hardest parenting decisions I've been faced with so far and I knew that I needed to figure it out, for my kids. I know parents make mistakes and I'm sure I will make my fair share of mistakes. I will always give it my best shot though. That's not something I can say my mom ever did. I made my first appointment with a family counselor a few months ago. I wanted to run things by a professional. I needed someone to reassure me that it is OK for me to make this decision. I needed someone to tell me I was doing the right thing. I don't always get a lot of understanding when I tell people about the decision I made to distance myself from my mother and her side of the family.

I know a lot of people don't agree with my choice and I understand that. This decision was based on a lifetime of pain and disappointment, not based on a handful of disagreements. I'm not asking for you to agree or understand my choice, just accept that I am doing the right thing for me and my family. My mother deserves love, everyone does. If you love her, I encourage you to continue loving her as long as you can. My relationship with her is just that, our relationship. It's not the same relationship she shares with other people in her life. She's a different person to each person on her life. I've told you about my mother, my version of her. I've reached a point in my life where I need to surround myself with loving, happy, supportive people. I feel like I'm in a good place. I'm happy and my family is happy. That has to mean something, right?

Glasses Included

I know most of you know this story already. Some of you were there for it. It's my favorite story. About 14 years ago, I saw my husband for the first time. My friends kept talking about the cute new guy who was in marching band with them. "He looks like Patrick Swayze", they told me. For weeks I kept hearing about this guy. Finally, one day while we were all standing outside during a break between classes, they pointed him out. I am not joking when I say that there was a crowd of people between this "cute new guy" and me and when I turned to look at him, the crowd parted like the parting of the red sea and there stood this guy:

"He is not cute. He wears glasses," I said and turned away. Dirty Dancing has always been one of my favorite movies and I feel very strongly about Patrick Swayze. This guy did not look like Patrick Swayze. I was not impressed and dare I say, maybe even a little disappointed. I was really looking forward to checking out this Swayze look alike.

Fast forward this VHS a few months later and you'll find me in an auditorium with my fellow classmates waiting out a bomb threat. Despite having several friends in common, Ryan and I had never actually met. I was sitting with a group a friends, Ryan was there too. Being the natural comedian that I am, I was telling jokes and entertaining all the boys around me, they were eating out of the palm of my hand like little ponies. They were almost in tears from laughing at my jokes. Ryan on the other hand, sat quietly off to the side, not saying a word. Not even cracking a smile. Oh, this guy. This Swayze imposter. He is no good. Later that day, he passed me in the hall and waved. I rolled my eyes. Clearly the eye roll had the same effect my jokes had on him, which was no effect at all because he continued to wave at me every day after that, every time he passed me in the hall. He claims he doesn't remember this at all. I can assure you that it is all true and I did not like this Ryan fella.

The following year, the first day of school, Ms. Benson's 11th grade history class. My BFF and I are sitting next to each other waiting for class to start when in walks the Swayze imposter. Annye waves him over and asks him to sit with us. He takes the seat in front of me and turns around to tell us a sob story about how his girlfriend broke up with him and how he's "lonely and white". Give me a break, I have had a total of 2 tans my entire life and my boyfriend had also broken up with me and proceeded to marry the girl he broke up with me for. This was pretty heavy stuff for a 16 year old. I was clearly going through a crisis in my life.. Not to mention I was on my way to becoming emancipated, living with my ex-step father and dealing with an insane mother. My life was a little crazy and I did not have time for this guy. Annye saw things differently and set to work immediately on setting us up. I couldn't wait to get out of class and away from the Swayze imposter and Annye's matchmaking ways. I rushed to my next class and took the last empty table in Anatomy. Just as I was getting situated at my nice big table all alone, in walks Ryan. This time, I have to admit, it was my fault, I asked him to sit with me in order to make my friends jealous. They were sitting at the table in front of me and had left me out. He sat next to me and we started to talk. I decided to give him a chance. I told him another joke. "You're kind of scary," he said. Ugh.

A few weeks later my phone rings, the caller id said "McGee". I answered. He invited me to a birthday party. I brought a friend. He flirted with her the whole time. When I left that party I literally hated him. He called me later that night and asked me to be his girlfriend. I said no and he continued to ask over and over and over until I finally said yes. I planned on giving it a month then breaking up with him.

Then this happened:

He makes me angrier than anyone else ever has. When he snores, I want to suffocate him. I do not understand how he can make everything he eats crunch so loudly that I want to rip my ears off. He is always in the wrong place at the wrong time and can't help but get into trouble. He is a wrecking ball and he is the reason we can't have nice things. But...

He makes me laugh harder than anyone else ever has. He's met my entire family and he didn't run away screaming. He doesn't complain about the lack of meat in the meals that I make him. He's cleaned up my throw up. He lets me sleep in regularly and tolerates my grumpiness when I don't get enough sleep. He held my leg while I gave birth to our daughter and didn't let it scare him out of making a son. He is an incredible dad. He encourages me and supports me more than anyone else ever has. He came into my life when I needed him the most and he never left. He knows me better than anyone else and he's my best friend. He's like the wind through my tree.

I literally can't remember what my life was life before him. Together for 13 years, married for 5 and 2 beautiful, smart and healthy kids. Thank you and I love you even though you wear glasses.
