J

6 months ago this happened:

I can't believe how quickly 6 months can pass. On the other hand, I know that 6 months is such a small amount of time. A tiny blip in this boy's life. It's just that babies change so much in the first year and soon they're "big kids" picking out their own outfits and asking questions about the world.

J's personality has really started to show recently. He's kind of a shy guy, he still likes to hide from the world but once he gets to know you, he is not afraid to be LOUD. He loves to laugh and hearing others laugh. Sometimes he will get fussy and I will do something silly to try to make him laugh, as soon as I stop, he gets fussy again just so I'll be silly again. Manipulator. No one makes him laugh more than his big sister though. He can still be a grumpy old man too. We spent last week in Arkansas with my family. We don't get to visit as much as I would like and M doesn't get nearly enough time to be rowdy with her cousins so we really let them go cray-cray. At one point all the kids were jumping on the bed, I was standing in the doorway with Jack who watched the kids jumping for a brief moment then furrowed his brow and began to yell at them as if to say "You kids better get off my lawn."

J seems to be learning cool new tricks all the time. He's a pro at rolling over now and loves to roll from his back to his tummy for play time. He also prefers to sleep on his tummy. Each night we put him on his back but soon he's flipping onto his tummy. The first night he did it, we freaked out and went back in to roll him onto his back (back is best) several times before I googled what we should do. When in doubt, google. Even if it's 2am. After removing his crib bumpers, now we just let him stay on his tummy and he's much happier there. He loves to stand up, he can pull himself up into a standing position if you let him hold onto your fingers. He's a strong little guy.

J's first tooth came through last week, a day before Thanksgiving. Perfect timing, almost like he was saying "Ok guys, bring on the food, I'm ready." Big boy. He's on stage 2 baby food and so far he's been really great about eating anything we give him. At first he refused to eat packaged baby food and insisted on only homemade stuff but he's getting over that.

Our lives have changed so much since he arrived 6 months ago. We're a lot busier and a little more tired, the husband and I have even less time to spend together (what's a date night?), we have to make sure we make time for M and Mommy dates so my favorite girl gets her one on one time with her mom. It feels like J has always been here though, he just fit right in and we're so lucky to have him.
