Recognize these guys? Macy, Zeke and Gus haven't gotten a lot of attention on this blog. Which is a shame considering how hard they work at their new roles as M's playmates. Gone are the days of lounging around on the couches all day, our queen sized bed is no longer big enough for us, 3 dogs and a baby. So when I was recently contacted by Freshpet and asked to review their new line of ready to bake dog cookies, I jumped on the opportunity. I knew this would be a great way to treat our sweet puppies and it would be a fun and easy activity for M who is obsessed with cooking and baking right now and the weather has been so unpredictable lately that I've been searching for new indoor activities for us to do. The package I received from Freshpet couldn't have come on a better day. M and I attempted to walk to the park but as soon as we got there it started to rain and we had to run home. We had just gotten back in the house when the delivery guy rang our doorbell. I opened the box to find a green insulated Freshpet cooler, a cute green apron that M instantly claimed for herself and these ready to bake dog cookies that look yummy enough for humans to eat:
I am going to be completely honest here, I LOVED these cookies, maybe even more than our dogs did. They were easy enough for M to help "bake", their ready to bake form left very little mess, they were ready in a few short minutes which is great for a toddler's attention span, and they make the house smell so good while they're baking. As if I haven't already given you enough reasons to rush out to your local store and pick up a few packages, I have to tell you that these are also made with all natural, preservative free ingredients. Safe enough for you to eat and yummy enough too, just ask M's Dad, he couldn't help but sample one because they smelled so delicious. I bet you'll be tempted to sample a peanut butter & oatmeal or maybe an oatmeal & cranberry. I really love their philosophy, "We work hard to give our pets the very best, just like our children - to keep them happy, healthy and safe". Sound familiar? It's mine too and you've probably heard me mention it a time or two.
Ok, enough about what we thought. You want to know what our picky puppies thought, right? Gus is the pickiest dog I have ever met. He takes several moments to inspect everything before eating, which usually ends up with one of the other dogs stealing it away from him while he's still sniffing it. All three of our dogs inhaled these cookies like little hoovers. The only time I have ever seen Gus eat a treat that quickly is when I baked homemade dog cookies from scratch for them as their Christmas gift. They couldn't get enough of Freshpet's ready to bake Dog Joy cookies, you'll see the feeding frenzy that ensued in the pictures below. Just to be safe, I sent a couple of cookies over to my in-laws house over the weekend for their 2 pugs to try and they loved them too.
My final verdict, add these to your shopping list. It's a fun, rainy day, no mess activity for little ones, it's waistline friendly baking and a nice treat for those poor neglected puppies who haven't had a good nap since M started crawling.
